SOURCE: location of the heater control valve
There are 2 hoses going through the firewall from the engine, these are the coolant hoses to the heater core, one is 3/4" and one 5/8", the control valve should be in the larger line (3/4") which is the inlet, make sure that the valve has vacuum (heater on low), also check and see if both hoses get hot with the heater blower on low, if they do get hot your problem is not the heater control valve but the air temp control blend door actuator.
SOURCE: can't find the spark plugs on a 2004 kia spectra gs
If you have the 4 cylinder (which is sounds like you do), you have 2 wires and 4 plugs. The coil has an extender that goes deep into the cylinder, the wire is attached to the side to fire the 2nd cylinder. This is what is known as the waste-spark system.
To change the plugs, remove the cover like you did previously. Next, separate the wire from the coil. Then lift the coil straight-up out of the engine... you will see one plug hidden under there. Lastly, remove the wire and you will see the other plug. Since you have two coils, you will have two hidden plugs, the other two are under the wires.
Since it is a deep drop to the plug hole, replace the plugs by putting a hose over the white part of the plug and gently drop them down into the plug hole. You can also tighten the plugs since the hose will probably have a snug fit.
Since you have aluminum heads, be sure to dab some oil from the dipstick onto the threads of the spark plugs... this will prevent them from sticking inside the head the next time you remove them which saves the threads from being torn out.
I hope this helps.

the purge valve i believe is located near your gas tank unless theyve moved it i should look like a little canister cyclinder shaped. both codes could be set off by the same problem. try replacing the valve.

It is attached to the bell housing on the drivers side. The starter is located in the back of the engine, under the intake manifold.

Most heater control valves are on or near the firewall behind the engine. Look for coolant hoses attached to a small metal piece. It also will have an arm that has a cable from inside the vehicle attached to it.
