For anyone who may happen along with the same issue as the first questioner I will go into a tiny bit more detail than the first answer.

It's called a "check plug" and it is found on the passenger side of the transmission case between the engine and transmission near to where the CV shaft plugs into the transmission. Remember to change the fluid (dextron III) and filter every 50,000miles or 80,000Km's. This is easy to do if you are even quasi mechanically inclined as it is an easy fix and will save you hundreds in unnecessary labor at a quick lube place or garage.

SOURCE: 2002 Alero shifting hard

I have a 1999 Oldsmobile Alero and my car was running rough and stalling. Also when the car was shifting, it was making a "thud" sound. My service engine light was on, so I took it to Autozone to run their diagnostic tool. It came back with code P0108 and they advised me to check my vacuum hoses as a possible solution. I looked and found that my air hose running from my throttle body to my map sensor was disconnected. I reconnected the hose and the engine ran normally and didn't make any "thud" sound when shifting. My car is back to normal. So check your hoses. If its still running rough, you may need to replace your map sensor.

SOURCE: Tranny Fluid Dipstick Location on a 02' Olds ALero...

Your Alero does not have a transmission dip stick. You do not need to check it unless it starts leaking.

SOURCE: how do you check a 2004 alero transmission fluid

2004 Aleros with auto trans DO NOT have a dipstick under the hood. They do have a filler cap, located on the driver side, look straight down under the edge of the exhaust crossover, black cap with a gear on it. According to the Manuf. the AUTOMATIC Transmission (should not need to be checked unless there is a leak) has a plug in the side just like the manual transmission. You remove the plug in the side and fill thru the top until fluid runs out the side hole. Replace the plug and the fill cap when done.

Where do I add transmission fluid on a 2002 Oldsmobile Alero?

Use a funnel and pour in the fluid into the transmission dip stick tube. Do it slowly so you don't overfill.

2002 Oldsmobile Alero makes loud noises when turning

more than likely it is just low on power steering fluid. system might have air in it now. so after fill power steering unit to proper level driver the car and check fluid level again. and add more if needed . I believe car should have motor running for when checking fluid, same as transmission.

What transmission oil does my 2002 oldsmobile alero 3.4 need?

This care does not have a dipstick but can easily be checked at home.
  1. 1. Warm the car up to running temperature.
  2. 2. Park it on a level surface.
  3. 3. Leave the car running and set the emergency /parking brake. Also set bricks in front and behind the wheels.
  4. 4. Look on the passenger side of the transmission (underneath the car)
  5. 5. You will see a 10mm bolt a little bit inward from the right axle on the transmission itself.
  6. 6. Have a drain pan ready and pull that bolt.
  7. 7. If fluid comes out it is full.
  8. 8. If no fluid comes out then add ATF III in the fill port on top of the transmission until the fluid just barely seeps out of that hole you removed the bolt from.
  9. 9. This port is on top of the transmission (under the hood) and is usually red or black in color.
  10. 10. The transmission is now full and ready to go.
  • Oldsmobile says to use Alero "F" transmission fluid but ATF III will work just as well. It has the same friction modifier as the Alero "F" does and is a bit cheaper (price wise) as well.

  • Hope this helps.

Where is the transmission dip stick for 2002 alero

As was mentioned, there isn't one. There is a small bolt on the side of the transmission pan (facing the front of the car) that is pulled and checked by the service mechanic. If a few drops of tranny fluid are released when the bolt is pulled, there is adequate fluid in the transmission.
