If this is really the XJ650 (in-line 4-cylinder engine) then yes - go to http://members.tripod.com/dave_jack/ to order the XJCD set. If it is the XS650 (vertical twin) then you should get the Yamaha service manual or go to www.650rider.com or www.mikesxs.com.

SOURCE: led relay

A simple and cheap effective way to solve this is add an old incandesent dual filiment bulb connecting the ground common and each of the filaments tone to the left and the other to the right, this will solve your problem without adding resistors that heat and burn out.

I have just bought another engine for my 1982 xj650,it is supposed to be a 1980 engine but it has ycis on it,i am not sure what this means, will this be ok for my bike, thanks

Hi Dave...I think you mean YICS, which stands for Yamaha Induction Control System. Back in the day this was the latest & greatest in modern technology, this engines are considered classics now.
Yamaha introduced Yamaha Induction Control System in 1979 as a fuel-saving engine system in 4-stroke motors...It was ahead of it's time actually. These engines burn cleaner, get better mileage, and produce more power. It will work fine in your bike.

I hope this helps & good luck with your bike.

I think your bike is being powered through the starter solenoid by a defective starter button. The starter button is on the right switch assembly and normally turns the headlight off when depressed halfway. A wire may be plugged in wrong in the headlight (Two wires are crossed). Take apart the right switch assembly and check for shorts and power from the solenoid ). Check the main wire harness to the handle bar switch for crossed wires (they are color coded).

1982 yamaha xj650 starting

Check the electrical switch in the clutch lever, most bikes have one as a safety, so you cant start it in gear, unless the clutch is in, could be a faulty switch, also do you have a switch on your side stand, sometimes these can be faulty as well.
