Turn both the air screw and throttle screw inward until they LIGHTLY seat. Now back each one outward one and one half turns. This is the factory setting. I am going to give you a web site where you can download a free PDF factory service manual for a YZ450FR. I believe the model is a bit different but the carbs are the same.

Go to this site and you can download a free PDF service manual. The site may take up to 25 seconds to fully load the list of manuals. It is worth the wait. www.carlsalter.com/motorcycle-manuals.asp The service procedures are there in detail and a lot of diagrams and photos. Don't mess with the pilot screw unless you have to, Part #11 in the diagram.
Can I get a Very Helpful" rating out of this?

Part 11 is the Air mixture screw, 2 1/2 turns is what mine took to run like it should. 45 idle or pilot jet is what I had to change to. The guy I bought he quad from never drained the carb bowl when not in use. If you let that fuel sit in the bowl it will cause issues, the fuel will evaporate and the crud is left behind to plug up the jets and cause issues with the float needle. I drain it if its going to sit more than a week.
Turn your Pet Cock valve off then either start the quad and let it run until it stalls or drain the carb bowl by backing out the Allen screw on the left side of the carb at the bottom of the bowl, fuel will run out so catch it with something ( coffee can).

More then likely if your having carburator problems its nothing to do with the adjustments. In the past few years i've found the most common problem is that people are using fuel with ETHANOL in it which will cause nothing but problems internally to the fuel system. Ive seen the inside of a carb turn green from ethanol and plug the tiny holes in the pilot jet after only being parked for 2 weeks.

1 half turn, get the bike running, go back until it tries to die, go forward until it tries to die, adjust to the middle of that. Factory.

2004 YAMAHA YFZ 450 Quad POPS OVERHEATS BREAKS UP AT HIGH RPM.

Question edited for full 'year make model (what it is).
Question moved from motorcycles to make model category.
Please don't type in all CAPS, it is considered SHOUTING and is harder to read.

'clips' and 'turns' it took me a while to realise you were talking about the carburetor and you were playing with the mixture screw and needle position! 4 turns out is a lot different to the factory setting which is 1 1/2 turns out.

If it is overheating it is running too lean. As you changed the stator, also consider the ignition timing. Popping can also be caused by the ignition failing under load, coil, lead and spark plug.

My yfz 450 yamaha 4 wheeler runs great in 1/2 choke, but when i put it down to idle it starts to miss and dies, I have replaced all of the carb and I am getting ready to asemble everything, the one thing I...

start about 2 turns out.
while idling when you screw it in a bout half a turn the bike will begin to bog down (rich)
as you screw it out the revs will increase and become uneven(lean)
pick a point between the two where the idle is smoothest.
this setting can change with different engine tempuratures, and altitude

How do i get my idle down on yamaha yfz 450 quad

Turn the idle screw anticlockwise half to one turn to set if this does not affect idle speed then you need to look further inside carbi or intake valves for other issues

There is an idle screw on the carborator. Turn it clockwise. It doesn't have to be turned very far.

How do i remove and clean the carburetor on a 2005 Yamaha YFZ 450? i could not find my model .but it is a 2005 YFZ 450v

The easiest way is to remove the seat and then remove the entire rear sub-frame - the airbox is attached to the subframe, so it will go with the subframe. Loosen the rear clamp on the intake boot. The sub-frame is only held on by three bolts so it's a piece of cake to remove.

Once the subframe is off, the carb will be wide open and easy to remove from there.
