Standby light blinks 8 times then some times blinks 9 times no noise at all like will not even try to power on tried unplug for 1 min and 4 hour no help
Use a hair dryer on the back right side of unit. Humidity sensor may be causing the unit to stay off. The hair dryer may also remove dust causing a false humidity detection
Don't bother taking it to a repairman. The cost would be over $400 to fix. My Sony wasn't even three years old which is maddening since it cost $900+. I noticed another woman wrote in about the same problem and she was also quoted a repair of $400+. I didn't buy another Sony, that's for sure!
I just had the same problem. I went to the Sony website. It instructed me to unplug the TV for 60 seconds. I waited 10 munutes; plugged it back in and it worked.
Everyone may have already tried this and maybe it didn't work and I just got lucky
Standby light flashes and wont turn on
OK so out Wega started failng to come on after shutting it off at night. It blinks 4 times Red. It never shuts off while I am watching it . 4 blinks means "running hot" I have cleaned the back of the TV with a vaccuum and it worked only to fail again the next day. I started finding posts that say the Humdity sensor in these Sony's is faulty. People have had luck with usuing a hair dryer ponted to the lower left hand corner (if your are facing the back panel of the TV. That never really worked for me. BUT what works for me is this, Take off the back panel, (10 screws) and vaccuum the fans (which all appear to be working) Then vacuum the left side fan and the area just to the right of it. The heat sensor is located near the Left sided fan. (It's a small round thing with wires going in and out of it. Bout as round as a quarter.) This has worked for me about a dozen times. I have just left the back panel held by 1 screw at this point. this will get me through til I buy a new S A M S U N G !!!!!!!

POWER ON LIGHT KEEP BLINKING TV NOT COMING ON
My TV will not turn on. The red standby light blinks 9 times, hesitates, blinks 9 times, hesitates, and just continues. I have tried to unplug the TV and waited to plug it in again with no results. The red light just starts blinking again and TV will not turn on.
Purchased TV 4 years ago. Can hear it click on but the picture never turns on and the power light goes on for a few seconds but then goes off - any ideas?

sony kv-36fs76 u, 5yrs old, cost 1500gbp!!! - now randomly switches to standby with 5 red blinks ad nauseum. sony repairman checked for error code(he held down two of the set-top buttons & switched tv on to get 'engineer screen'). there was no error indicated, so he suggested binning the set & buying another! Never again a sony!!
My Sony Wega KD36XS955 HDTV went off the first time after about nine months of buying it (just under $2000 out the door!). Called Sony and the tech said:"unplug it and plug it back in then turn it on. It's common with that model". It worked, and in less than 4 years I've had the TV, it's done it a few more times and I'd unplg it, plug back in and it would work. Until now. No matter how long it's unplugged, it won't turn on. It flashes 3 times and that's it. The Sony tech originally said the degaussing system had to reset, and this last time we spoke after it wouldn't work anymore he said the 3 flashes indicated a bad "DZ board". I had a 2 year warranty that ran out and Sony recommended buying a new TV from them at a slight discount... thanks for the advice, Sony, but I'll never buy another Sony product, EVER!!!
