Orange LED blinks 5 times then a 2 second green

My ipxma ip4000r stopped printing without warning. I now get a series or 5 orange and one longer green light. I have changed all the ink cartridges (genuine). I have tried disconnecting power, holding on power button and reconnecting power. I have tried putting into service mode to print printer status, but nothing works. Is there something else I haven't tried?

Thanks AlmostBob, looks like it's going to cost me money. could be a print head or worse, a new printer.

the green power light is lit when power is on but nothing else works..pressing wrench button does nothing..unplugged waited hour...still nothing. Prior to this it was working fine...no warnings of problems.

If you type in 'flashing power light' in the problem box, for 5 you get print head failure, often it means the connectors between cartridge and print carriage are dirty, can be cleaned with a pencil eraser and a soft cloth. there is a sequence of checks and repairs to follow on the canon service page

How do I change the Waste Ink collector on a Pixma MP170?

Cleaning or changing the pad is a messy project. This ink pad reset will reset the printer ink use conter to new status and your pad full message will be gone. This is a common occurance with Canon printers and the fix causes no harm. I reset my own MP470 about two years ago without incident.

This reset has been sucessful on many MP150 and simular units and should work on your MP170.
The second works on models with different control pads simular to theMP470.

printer powered off but connected on power source , you must:
1. Press & hold stop/reset button, and then press & hold [ON/OFF] button.
2. When Green power lit, leave stop/reset button & press twice stop/reset (see orange indicator).
3. Leave On/Off button. Printer in actually service mode.
4. Press stop/reset 4 times (see orange indicator) if not blink restart above process from top.
5. After press stop/reset 4 times successful press On/Off button 3 times. printer will off.
6. Press On/Off button.

Error code 5100 check printer

This is probably a Canon printer and code. If so, it is the "ink waste pad is full" warning. There are work arounds to keep from having to clean the pad. Here are two methods to eliminate the message. The only other ways are to take it to a repair shop or dismantle the printer and clean the pad yourself. Not advised, This is messy.

This works on many different printers.

Ip4300 canon pixma

I have the Canon Pixma iP4000R printer. I had an error code of a600 and my power light was blinking/flashing green-orange-green-orange-green-orange-green-orange-green-orange-green-orange-green-orange-green-orange-green-orange-green-orange-green-orange-green-orange (12 oranges).

I tried the “waste ink counter reset reset” procedure: Power on while holding the stop/reset button and pushing the service button twice, then pushing the stop/rest button 4 times to clear the error, but that didn’t work.

My ink cartridge carrier wasn't moving. I thought I had a paper jam.

I looked at a few blogs about my error on other Canon Pixma models and they kept talking about “sponges”.

The following is what I discovered that cleared my error and now my printer is back to printing!

The “sponges” are 2 hard pieces of absorbing plastic or something of the like. I was looking for a softer material like long thin gray foam strip material in my printer. The 2 "sponges" on my Pixma iP4000R were next to each other-one was rectangular and one was square-like. Originally they were white but the ink made them black/navy.

The "sponges" are located on the right under where the ink cartridge carrier "rests".

I didn't see the sponges at first, as there was a white “L” shaped plastic piece that had a spring attached to it. The “L” shaped piece was moved forward out of its place. I used my pen tip and pushed that piece back and found that the rectangular "sponge" had popped out of its place.

I used a pen tip popped both “sponges” out and rinsed them with water and voila they were once again white. I think the rectangular one had so much ink on it it popped itself out of place.

My error is gone and I can print again!
